BIOGRAPHY
I'm London
Lamar
London P. Lamar is a Memphis-born leader, mother, State Senator, and proven fighter for working families. She’s running for Congress to bring bold, disciplined leadership to Washington at a time when too many Tennessee families are working harder and still falling behind.
Raised in Memphis, London understands what it means to stretch a paycheck, fight for opportunity, and build community in a state where too many people feel overlooked by politics altogether. While costs keep rising and political chaos dominates the headlines, London is focused on something simpler: delivering results that actually improve people’s lives.
Since 2018, London has served in the Tennessee General Assembly, first in the State House and now in the Tennessee State Senate representing District 33 in Memphis and Shelby County. She is the youngest woman and youngest African American ever elected to the Tennessee State Senate and currently serves as Chair of the Tennessee Senate Democratic Caucus.
London currently serves on the Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee, Judiciary Committee, and Joint Ways and Means Committee, where she helps shape state budgets, protect fundamental rights, and fight for policies that directly impact Tennessee families.
Her record is rooted in action, not performance.
London has passed legislation to improve maternal healthcare, strengthen Tennessee’s response to maternal mortality, expand access to doula support, improve maternal mental health training for healthcare professionals, and ensure new mothers receive critical post-birth warning information before leaving the hospital. She has also worked on issues involving human trafficking, voting rights, criminal justice reform, education, and public safety.
Outside the legislature, London has spent years building power in communities too often ignored by those in office. Her background includes nonprofit leadership, education advocacy, reproductive justice work, and civic engagement. As Memphis Regional Program Director for the Center for Black Educator Development, she helped lead efforts to strengthen the Black teacher pipeline and invest in the next generation of educators.

London is running for Congress because Tennessee deserves leadership focused on people instead of political theater.
Her campaign is centered on lowering costs for working families, protecting healthcare access, defending rural hospitals, investing in public schools and HBCUs, expanding workforce training, supporting small farms and rural communities, improving infrastructure and broadband access, and delivering real constituent services that reach every corner of the district.
Her mission is clear:
Lower Costs. Protect Opportunity. Deliver Results.
For London, this work is personal. Families should not have to choose between groceries and rent. Rural communities should not lose access to hospitals and basic care. Students should not drown in debt just to build a future for themselves and their families.
London Lamar believes government should do more than make promises. It should solve problems, deliver resources, and serve people with dignity.
She’s ready to take that fight to Congress.
